Council remains vigilant but hopeful of no further flooding evacuations

WARRINGTON Borough Council has provided a new flooding update and while remaining vigilant, is hopefully no further evacuations will be required following a slight improvement in the weather.

Warrington Borough Council officers continue to be on-site at affected areas of Warrington, alongside the emergency services, environment agency and other partners.
The council has prioritised their response based on those residents and families whose homes have been severely flooded and therefore have needed to evacuate, such as areas of Dallam.
With a slight improvement in weather conditions the council is hopeful that further evacuations may not be necessary, but of course are remaining vigilant and on-hand to provide support overnight should the situation change, given the unpredictability of the current circumstances.
If you have left your property to seek shelter with friends and family – please continue to follow the COVID-secure basics of ‘hands, face, space’, and let fresh air in. Please also consider who to stay with – for example, please do not go to properties where there are people currently self-isolating or clinically extremely vulnerable.
If you’re a homeowner and are concerned that you need to evacuate, or about damage to your home, please make sure you speak to your insurance company. They will be able to provide advice, support and, if possible, alternative accommodation. If you are in rented accommodation or social housing, please contact your housing provider or landlord who will also be able to provide support.
If you are worried about the need to urgently leave your property and cannot contact your insurance company and have no alternative accommodation through friends or family, please do contact the council at 01925 443322. Try to avoid at this point going to any community venues that may have been opened, as people congregating in indoor settings poses significant risks of coronavirus being transmitted, particularly to people who could be elderly or vulnerable.
The Council is grateful for the continued work and assistance of emergency services, partners and colleagues, and will remain vigilant of the weather throughout the night.
