One more death and 178 new COVID-19 cases reported in Warrington

ONE more patient has sadly died at Warrington Hospital while 178 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in the town according to the latest daily update from Public Health England.

The 178 (73) new COVID-19 positive cases reported in the latest daily update from Public Health England, means the total number of confirmed cases in Warrington since the start of the pandemic is now 6,503 (6,325).
Cases in Warrington for the last seven days are 973 – 463.3 per 100,000 population.

According to the latest data from Public Health England there have now been 205 (202) deaths in Warrington, 97.6 per 100,000 population.

Across the UK the daily number of COVID-19 associated UK deaths was 492 (397), taking the total number of deaths to 47,742 (47,250).
The daily number of lab-confirmed UK cases was 25,177 (20,018), taking the total number to 1,099,059 (1,073,882).
Across the country, there are 12,320 (11,458) patients currently in hospital and 1,142 (1,075) patients in ventilator beds.

Meanwhile the council, in partnership with Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, has launched a public data dashboard that details the latest coronavirus-related figures in the town.
The dashboard, which will be updated each weekday, will offer a brief summary of the most recent, verified case numbers, as well as relaying the current situation in the hospital.
Warrington continues to see high coronavirus cases in the town, with the hospital under increasing – and almost critical – pressure, more people requiring intensive care and, tragically, more people dying from the virus.
The new data dashboard will help support residents to understand the very serious current picture in Warrington. It displays figures and graphs for the number of confirmed cases in the most recent seven-day period, the incidence rate of cases per 100,000 people, the number of inpatients admissions to hospital with the virus, how many people are in intensive care, and how many people have died from the virus.
The council’s Chief Executive, Professor Steven Broomhead MBE, said: “We have known and acknowledged for some time the difficulties we are facing in Warrington with our case numbers remaining so high. Our heroic colleagues at the hospital are doing all they can to look after some of our most vulnerable and sick people, but with coronavirus admissions pushing the hospital to the limit, we need to keep doing all we can to reverse the trend and reduce the number of cases.
“To help us in this mission, the data dashboard will be a reference point for us all, to give us the very latest figures and trends in our continued work to try and bring case numbers down. I hope it will give us all some extra motivation to keep playing our part.”
Chief Executive of Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Professor Simon Constable said: “The pressures we are currently facing in our hospital are very challenging, and with winter coming and an absolute need to carry on with other planned activity as possible, we need to do all we can as a community to prevent people being admitted into hospital with coronavirus.
“The dashboard that we are publishing shows the very latest situation in our hospital and I know it will reinforce the seriousness of the situation we are currently in. The data looks stark – but it is within our collective power to prevent the transmission of the virus.
“To help us address our serious capacity issue in hospital and in order for us to bring case numbers down, keep washing your hands, keeping your distance from others and wearing a cloth face covering – following the basics has never been so important.”
