Woolston women raise £1,000 for Poppy Day

THREE women have raised more than £1,000 for the Royal British Legion by displaying poppies on lamp posts and in woodland at Woolston, Warrington.

Jill Fox, Lianne Lavelle and Sonia Bellerby first hit on the idea of displaying large poppies on lamp posts last year – and raised more than £500.
This year, because the Covid-19 pandemic was causing problems for the annual Poppy Day appeal, they decided they needed to do more – and ordered twice as many poppies.
The poppies are either sponsored or dedicated by or to local people and organisations and cost £5 each – although many supporters offer more. So far the poppies on lamp posts along Manchester Road have brought in more than £1,000 – and the organisers are still counting!
