AS one more patient has sadly died and 189 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in the town Warrington Hospital inpatient numbers have now exceeded the peak of the first wave.
The Hospital’s Chief Exceutive Professor Simon Constable said: “The situation at Warrington Hospital remains extremely concerning with the number of COVID-positive inpatients now exceeding that seen during the first peak of the pandemic in April 2020. Our priority remains the safe and effective care of all of our patients as well as the health and wellbeing of our staff. We are continuing to carry out diagnostic procedures and treatments for our cancer and urgent patients as well as maintaining as much of our planned surgery and outpatient programme as possible.”
The 189 (164) new COVID-19 positive cases mean the total number of confirmed cases in Warrington since the start of the pandemic is now 5,532 (5,343).
Cases in Warrington for the last seven days are 883 – 420.4 per 100,000 population.

A total of 42 patients have now died at the hospital in the month of October.
According to the latest data from Public Health England there have now been 196 (193) deaths in Warrington, 93.3 per 100,000 population.
Meanwhile, Warrington South MP Andy Carter has given an update on the Nightingale Care Plan which will help provide additional capacity for hospitals like Warrington.
Mr Carter said: “As the prevalence of Covid-19 in the North West is increasing, the NHS Nightingale Hospital in Manchester is being reactivated to provide additional capacity for the region’s health and care system.
The approach being taken is slightly different, the Nightingale will support acute hospitals in the North West by providing intermediate care for patients who do not have Covid-19 and who need further support or assessment before they can be discharged home, or to their usual place of residence. This will create additional capacity in acute hospitals for sicker patients who need their care and facilities.
“From this week bed numbers will be scaled up swiftly and made available to support acute hospitals like Warrington Hospital should they need to make use of it. The model of care will be under continuous review, depending on the impact of Covid-19 on the NHS.
“Warrington Hospital is currently operating within their escalation plan and are working through the detail for the next phase that will likely see them need capacity for over 200 COVID-19 inpatients, the peak in the first wave was 121.”
Across the UK the daily number of COVID-19 associated UK deaths was 310 (367), taking the total number of deaths to 45,675 (45,365).
The daily number of lab-confirmed UK cases was 24,701 (22,885), taking the total number to 942,275 (917,575).
Across the country, there are 9,520 (9,199) patients currently in hospital and 902 (852) patients in ventilator beds.
