COVID-19 restrictions hit fixtures and availability for Warrington Hockey Club – but the women’s 1st team travelled to Oswestry and achieved a 3-0 win despite missing several key players.
Molly Rudd scored two goals, just shy of a hat-trick as her third was disallowed.
Jamie Lindsay also finished off a fantastic pass from Grace Deegan Graham. Tracy Jackson was sharp in goal to keep her clean sheet.
Captain Carrie Wright said, “The girls who stepped up to help the 1st XI out for possibly our last league fixture for a while all played really well and helped us achieve a win.”.
The men’s newly promoted 1st team learnt a tougher lesson away at Macclesfield where they faced a well organised squad that had narrowly come down from the league above, losing 5-2.
Macclesfield went two up early on, with Warrington showing great character to cancel that out by half time. However the Macclesfield front line rotated and ran, scoring a further three goals to end the game
The new coronavirus restrictions mean all league matches are now cancelled, but Warrington have made arrangements with Lymm Hockey Club to run a mixed mini-league – which means neither club will have to travel outside the borough
