THERE was traffic chaos on roads leading into Warrington from the Cheshire side this morning as a result of the A50 Knutsford Road swing bridge being out of operation for several hours.
The bridge, which is now open, will require essential repairs later today but it is hoped they can be done without having to re-open the bridge.
Traffic piled up along Knutsford Road through Grappenhall and there were similar hold-ups on the Stockton Heath Swing Bridge and the Cantilever High Level Bridge as drivers tried to find a way round the jam.
The Cantilever Bridge was also controlled by a one-way traffic light system because of bridge painting work.
Many drivers turned back rather than attempt to get into Warrington.

It wasn’t exactly light for those of us who went over Warburton Brideg and came into town via Woolston- chaos reigns supreme on Warrington’s roads yet again!
Walton drag towards town (over the third swing bridge) was totally gridlocked too. Good excuse for being late for work though ?!?!?!?
It’ll be a scream when Peel holdings port opens !
