MP backs soccer star’s free school meals campaign

WARRINGTON North MP Charlotte Nichols has spoken out in support of a campaign led by Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford to expand the provision of Free School Meals.
In June, Rashford successfully lobbied the Government to reverse their position on continuing to provide Free School Meals over the summer holidays. He is following this up with a petition calling on the Government to expand their provision, signed by more than 250,000 people.
Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary Kate Green has announced that the party will press for a vote on this in the House of Commons.
Charlotte Nichols supports this and said: ‘With almost two and a half thousand children in Warrington North eligible for free school meals, I wholeheartedly support Marcus Rashford’s fantastic campaign on expanding the provision of free school meals.
“Marcus’ campaigning on this is truly inspirational and a credit to our region.
This is especially important given the impact that the removal of the furlough scheme will have on unemployment and the existing pressures on the Universal Credit system and Warrington Foodbank.
I will do everything I can in Parliament to fight to ensure that no child, whether in Warrington or across the country, goes hungry at school.’
