Swine flu treatment no longer free

CHARGES will apply to swine flu treatment from today (Thursday).
The antiviral medication prescribed to patients for treatment of swine flu will no longer be free – standard prescription charges will apply.
Warrington Primary Care Trust says that as the numbers of swine flu cases remain low, anti-viral medication will no longer be made available from the national stockpile.
Health professionals such as GPs will treat patients demonstrating flu symptoms in the normal way, and where appropriate will prescribe antiviral medication which can be collected from a pharmacy.
The standard prescription charge is £7.20 per item prescribed, although the price may change. Some patients may be exempt from charges in a number of circumstances and pharmacists will be able to advise on exemptions.
