WARRINGTON Borough Council – in common with other authorities across the country – is to receive government money to help repair damage caused to local roads during the “big freeze.”
The allocation, revealed in the budget, will be ring-fenced to ensure councils spend it on the roads.
Warrington’s road network suffered massive damage during the freeze up and many roads were left a moonscape of pitted and potholed roads.
Warrington North MP Helen Jones welcome the cash injection.
She said: “I welcome the announcement that Warrington will receive over a quarter of a million pounds to tackle the problem.
“Ring fencing the funding means the money will go where it should – to plug the potholes. We’ll also be able to make sure that Warrington Borough Council has undertaken the repairs properly and spent the money wisely.”

Is it ringfenced around fixing potholes or just roadworks…knowing this council it will just be used for more traffic lights!
Surely the money will go to reinforce their pensions instead. I take a gamble with my life each morning, attempting to negotiate the terrible roads on my bike. I’ve already complained to the council to which I got no reply.
If they spent half as much money repairing the roads than installing VMS and traffic lights our roads would be the envy of the entire UK.
