A WARRINGTON-based sports club has won a £1,000 grant to purchase new equipment and fund the hire of sports pitches – the most costly part of their operation.
Participation Through Sport, which is based at the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Young People’s Peace Centre, has been granted the money by the national Cash 4 Clubs initiative funded by online betting company Betfair, in partnership with SportsAid.
The Warrington club seeks to provide free activities and courses to young people from difficult backgrounds.
It is one of 14 clubs nationals to share in a £10,000 hand-out.
Alex Wright, from Participation Through Sport, said: “The grant will allow us to continue running the Warrington Community Street League and provide football activities for young people who struggle to find opportunities to take part in football. The Street League is also a tool for developing volunteers with an ambition to coach or referee in football.
“Our current funding will run out later this year so this grant will keep the Street League running for at least another year.”
Dame Kelly Holmes, a member of the Cash 4 Clubs awarding panel, said: “Judging these awards gives me the chance to see how many clubs there are right across the country, all the volunteers and parents involved, and all the clubs thinking creatively about how they can increase participation.”
