A 60-year-old motorist found dead on the M6 near Warrington died from a pre-existing medical condition, police revealed today.
The man, Brian Gregory, from Skelmersdale, was originally thought to have been involved in an accident when he was found lying on the hard shoulder near to Junction 20 at Lymm.
It was thought he might have been struck by a passing vehicle while attempting to change a wheel.
But a post mortem examination has revealed that he died as a result of a pre-existing medical condition.
He was found in the early hours of Wednesday and the motorway’s northbound carriageway was closed for almost six hours, causing severe traffic congestion.
