Park plan moves forward

PLANS to revamp Warrington’s Victoria Park are set to move forward following the appointment of a design company to develop a plan of what the new area will look like.
BDP, a leading European and regionally based practice of architects, designers and engineers has been appointed to draw up a proposal.
The company will work directly with project partners and stakeholders to draw up plans for a vibrant green space which will support wider plans for regeneration in Warrington.
Local residents had their say about the future of the park last autumn when a public consultation exercise took place.
Councillor Alan Litton, (pictured right) executive board member for environment and transport at the Warrington council said: “We are very keen that the future development and improvement
of the park will be sustainable. “The project’s future regeneration and improvement proposals will be expected to generate significant external funding and support from
partners to ensure its future delivery and management.” Further stakeholder workshops and public consultation events will take place over the summer, once designs for
the park have been drawn up.

  1. “A leading European and regionally based practice of architects, designers and engineers has been appointed to draw up a proposal.”

Good Grief! and just how much is that going to cost? The amount this council spend on consultants fees is just utterly ridiculous! Do they not have sufficient expertise already employed by the council who could “draw up plans for a vibrant green space”? or could Groundwork Mersey Valley or such not do the job for a mere fraction of the cost? After having just announced cut backs to essential services spending like this seems really irresponsible. Isn’t it about time they got their priorities right!

  2. Sha, obviously not, just look what the Council/planners/ did, they made a laughing stock of the town centre by having green skittles and poor feature of a water trough

in the middle of the town centre, at a reported cost of £6million plus.

  3. Being fair to the Council…. if they are seen to be using the expensive services of a “European and regionally based practice of architects, designers and engineers” to draw up the proposals then people may feel that the proposals are what it needed as after all the ‘experts’ have devised them….. and if it all goes wrong or people don’t like the plans then the council have ‘someone else’ to pass the blame too and if people do like it then the counail can be thanked for employing the services of the experts:) Sort of win win situation really but costing us the taxpayers agan whilst saving face at the council depending on which way it all goes !

  4. The fact that the Council has to hire “experts” for any project means that they are employing a number of incompetents who cannot justify their salaries.

Everytime outsiders are brought in means that the Council are paying salaries to people who have been promoted on service rather than achievement..The cull of under achievers is long overdue.

Pay me a couple of thousand quid and I will come up with a suitable proposition purely based on common sense and a feel for the situation.
