Rooftop apartments with “breathtaking views” planned for town centre

PLANS have been drawn up for four rooftop apartments with “breathtaking views” across Warrington town centre and the River Mersey.

The scheme for the Blue Apple cafe building in Buttermarket Street has been submitted to the borough council.
It envisages flour apartments on the roof – effectively adding an additional storey to the existing four-storey locally listed building.
At present the ground floor is used for retail and a public house, accessed from pedestrianised Buttermarket Street, according to the applicants. The upper floors consist of 10 residential apartments, accessed from Horrocks Lane at the rear.

The new apartments would respect the front elevation of the building but at the rear there would be a more contemporary-style extension to house the four additional apartments, with floor to ceiling glass to “absorb the breathtaking views of the town and the River Mersey.
The applicants, Trainer Properties Ltd, state: “ What we are proposing will give the building a chance to show its full potential. It is situated in a prominent location within the Town Centre.”
No provision for parking is included in the proposals because the building is in a pedestrianised area and there are nearby bus and train links.
