Firefighters tackle grass and woodland fires

FIREFIGHTERS from Penketh were called out three times yesterday to deal with fires outdoors involving grass and woodlands in the Warrington area.

The first incident was at 14:52 on Moore Lane, Warrington, when firefighters were called following reports of a grass fire off Moore Lane.
On arrival the crew made their way on foot to the fire which involved a bush.
A hand appliance and beaters were used to extinguish the flames.Beaters were then used to treat hot spots nearby.
Then at 16:48 they were called following reports of a small fire in woodland near Moss Side Lane.
The crew made their way on foot through the woodland and extinguished the fire.
Finally at 21:34 firefighters were called following reports of a fire in woodland off Lingley Green Avenue.
The fire was out on arrival but the crew used a thermal imaging camera to check the area and found a small patch of embers.
A short extension ladder was used to access the woodland and a hose reel jet was used to damp down the area.
A final check was then made with the thermal imaging camera.
