High Sheriff sends special VE Day message to all front line workers

HIGH Sheriff of Cheshire Nick Hopkinson MBE DL has sent a special message to all front line workers on the eve of the 7th anniversary of VE Day.

He said: “It is so hard to imagine what it must have been like when 75 years ago today the guns fell silent in Europe and Churchill announced the cessation of hostilities and the end of the war.
“Millions of lives were lost and many more were damaged physically and emotionally.
Tomorrow we remember all the brave men and women who played a part, however small in the war effort. It was a collective win, a huge display of teamwork, a coming together of our great nation and our allies to defect a common enemy.
“A couple of minutes silence and a lone piper does not feel anywhere close to being enough, but that is how we remember them all and I hope you all will join in with a rousing round of applause afterwards.
“We also need to remember that the world recovered and was stronger afterwards.
“We have our own war at the moment and I want to thank everyone on behalf of the Queen for the part you are playing to ensure that once again we are victorious. There are heroes everywhere and sometimes it is the smallest gesture that has the biggest impact.
“Please continue to work as one big team, to keep us safe, to be patient when we make poor decisions and to guide us to the right path when we lose our way.

“You front line workers can never be thanked enough. Prisons, probation, police, fire and rescue, ambulance, judiciary, NHS, government, shop workers, all council workers, refuse collectors, charity workers, lorry drivers, youth workers, teachers……etc. etc…..the list is huge….and so is our thanks.
“I hope the general public respect the difficult jobs you are all doing and resist the temptation to celebrate with friends…..that they all say at home, stay safe and help with this fight rather than making it more difficult.
“Peace, love, thanks, remembrance and saving lives.”
