THE local Sikh Community has said “Thank You” to the NHS by preparing and donating over 2000 meals to Warrington & Halton Hospital staff.

The Sikh community and Gurua Nanak dev ji gurdwara Sikh Temple worked together and cooked, prepared and delivered over 2000 meals for Warrington and Halton Hospital staff on weekend shifts over the past four weekends during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Every Thursday thanks to the generous donations, which are being coordinated by the temple Trustees, a team embark on a shopping trip for all the ingredients, then begin preparing at 6am on Friday morning. Cooking for up to 6 hours at a time they then batch cook hundreds of meals and package into individual portions ready for collection mid-morning on Saturday and Sunday ready for staff.
The meals are then collected and delivered to the Warrington site where they are distributed across the Lovely Lane and Halton sites.

Gurdwara Trustees Daljit Singh Johal and Paramjit Sekhon comments: “Langar is a term used in Sikhism for the community kitchen where a free meal is available for everyone. Our teachings are that whatever is happening in the world the one thing that makes a difference is supporting one human to another”
“We want to as much as possible to help people thought this difficult time. The team will be cooking and delivering more meals again this weekend which is our way of saying thank you to the NHS frontline who are working so hard.”
