LIVEWIRE’S community tennis development programme based at Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub, fought off tough competition from across the Region to win the Community & Parks Award for the North Region in the 2020 Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) Awards.
It was one of over 70 inspirational individuals and venues across Great Britain to be named as a regional winner of this years LTA Tennis Awards.
Selected from over 2,100 nominations across 11 categories, LiveWire were recognised by the LTA for their outstanding contribution to tennis over the past year winning the Community & Parks category award. Their community programme delivered at Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub, and linked to the main development programme at Birchwood Leisure and Tennis Centre, was recognised for the way it has opened up tennis in 2019 and made it welcoming and accessible to players of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. It was also recognised for demonstrating excellent safeguarding standards.
Launched in 2015, the LTA Tennis Awards celebrate the thousands of individuals involved in tennis – from the 25,000 volunteers, to the 4,400 coaches and 940 officials. They also highlight the incredible achievements of 20,000 schools, 2,700 clubs and over 9,700 LTA approved tournaments in helping to grow the sport.
After progressing from the county stage of the awards, LiveWire as regional winners will now go forward to be considered for the national shortlist in the Community & Parks category.

The national shortlist for the LTA Awards will be announced in June.
