Villagers sing their support to NHS Angels

VILLAGERS at Grappenhall and Thelwall got together online to create their own version of Robbie Williams’ classic “Angels” to show their support for Warrington’s NHS Heroes.

The video, containing a wide variety of singing “talent” was put together by local resident Paul Burton
Paul, a self employed IT Consultant for home and small business computer users, said: “I, as many others, have a lot of free time right now as I cant really work much under the current restrictions.
“I’m in a Facebook group called “Leave no-one behind Grappenhall & Thelwall” and also one called “Love Grappenhall” and I was trying to think of a way to connect the community in a time when it isn’t possible face to face.
“I’d discussed an online radio station for the villages but that drew very little interest. I then remembered similar things like Band Aid’s “Do they know its Xmas” and “We are the world” plus the BBC’s “Perfect day” and just thought it would be good way for people to contribute to something that might entertain and bring people together.
“I chose “Angels” as its a song known by most age groups and has a few points where people can really belt out the vocals. I put it to the groups and, to be honest, initial interest was really slow. It was only when I posted a rough version of what little I had to some people, did the idea take off.
“By the end I was having to shorten video submissions just to fit everyone in. I’m a musician myself and I wrongly assumed that everyone’s video would be in perfect time and tune. Wrong!
There were a few challenges there and several lines are in a different key to the song but I think that adds to its charm.
“I’m happy how it turned out and pleased to say its been very popular and maybe we’ll do another some time in the future. Right now, I’ve heard the song so many times when building the video I’ll be glad not to hear “Angels” for a while!”
