VIDEO: ON the 8th anniversary of the death of her soldier son grieving mother Lisa Billing stood with veterans in front of Warrington’s Golden Gates, showing her support for those facing historic prosecutions.
Lisa Billing, whose son 20-year-old Daniel Wade was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2012, was joined by other veterans calling on Prime Minister Borish Johnson to end the historic proeecutions and to keep his pre-election promise.
She is supporting veterans in memory of her son Daniel, a former Sir Thomas Boteler CE High School pupil, who was one of six British soldiers killed by a massive Taliban bomb in Afghanistan in March 2012.
Private Wade and the five other soldiers had been on a security patrol in a Warrior armoured fighting vehicle when it was caught in an explosion in the Kandahar province.
Lisa, who gets her strength from supporting veterans in memory of her son, said: “If Daniel was still alive he would have been stood with me here today to show support for all the veterans facing these prosecutions.
“Boris Johnson promised that the minute he got into power he’d stop all these veteran prosecutions.
“They are innocent men who’ve been tried and tested but now the historical case team based in N.I are not leaving our Soldiers alone.
“We have soldiers in court like Dennis Hutchings who broke his silence to help his comrades.
“It is time for Borish Johnson to deliver on his promise.”
Meanwhile the trial of ex-soldier Dennis Hutchings for the alleged attempted murder of John Pat Cunningham in 1974, which was to begin on Monday, has been delayed due to concerns over the 78-year-old’s health and the threat of coronavirus.
Belfast Crown Court was told his flight to attend the trial was “lost” due to the collapse of Flybe.
Mr Hutchings denies two charges linked to the death of Mr Cunningham.
