Fly tipping warning

2

FEARS that proposed closure of the Sandy Lane recycling centre in Stockton Heath could lead to fly tipping were sounded by Coun Liz Jewkes.
She said: “The borough council is proposing to close Sandy Lane waste disposal centre.
“That would mean people will have to travel further, or may resort to fly tipping – we should fight it.”
Stockton Heath Parish Council was considering a consultation paper on the borough council’s spending plans for 2010 to 2013. The document details planned services and looks at spending reviews and reductions.
One proposal is to redirect all community recycling to the community recycling facility at Gatewarth and close the other two centres – Woolston and Stockton Heath.
Clerk Peter Briggs said the planning, finance and general purposes committee had already looked at the document and had lodged an objection to the closure of Sandy Lane waste site.
It had also asked about the future of the park keeper at Alexandra Park and the future of the Sandy Lane Centre.

  1. How many more needed services will WBC look to cut to save a few quid. Do they not realise that many people USE their local tips.

And WHY, if Stockton Heaths Parish Council’s planning, finance and general purpose blah blah committee already knew about the plans and lodged an objection, DID THEY NOT THINK TO INFORM THE RESIDENTS AND OTHER USERS OF THE CLOSURE PROPOSALS SOONER … I presume there will be some form of public consultation before a final decision is made after all WE ALL PAY FOR IT…… AND THEM.
