Social networking boost for council

3

WARRINGTON Borough Council has been utilising social networking web sites to relay urgent messages to residents during the severe weather.
Public services in the town have been disrupted and the council’s facebook and twitter sites have been continuously updated with the very latest information on school closures, council service shut-downs, gritting updates and facility opening times.
This information is also being posted “as it happens” on the homepage of www.warrington.gov.uk
Coun leader Ian Marks said: “Communicating with all of our residents is one of our top priorities. To make this easier than ever before we have been developing our online presence of late so we can be much more accessible.”
The number of fans and followers of the council has risen dramatically in the past few days.

  1. They certainly woulddn’t be clogging up the internet twittering about their gritting, nor can Warrington be blamed for any current shortage. I have only seen two gritters since the snowfall – both had their yellow lights flashing but neither were distributing any grit. The roads are worse than any surrounding authorities.
