Residents roll up their sleeves and clean up Peel Hall Park

RESIDENTS in Cinnamon Brow and Fearnhead rolled up their sleeves to clean up Peel Hall Park tackling broken glass, litter and overgrown footpaths to make the area a smarter and safer place for all ages to enjoy.

Members of the newly formed Cinnamon Brow & Fearnhead Volunteer Group gathered last weekend to tackle a series of footpaths running through the park that had become difficult to negotiate.

Group leader and organiser Jon Parr said: “The paths were becoming more difficult to pass, they were also awash with slippery leaves and overhanging tree branches creating a real risk to the people that use this green space on a daily basis, particularly the elderly.”

The group was founded after Jon, his wife Elaine, their two young sons Adam and Luke, granddad Roger and family friend Brian Clarke decided to get together over the Christmas period to clear up broken glass on a children’s play area.

Jon said: “It was clear that other areas of the park needed attention and we decided to get this group going to sort things out.”

He said it has been ‘heartening’ to receive offers of help from neighbours. He added: “It was clear to see that people living in the area really wanted to make a difference. The feedback and outpouring of appreciation via Facebook and offer to help made our decision to start this group an easy one.”

“Our group has grown in numbers and we recently staged a second park event to restore more footpaths for people to use safely”. Said Jon.

The group intends to undertake volunteer work across the whole of Cinnamon Brow and Fearnhead. The current priority will be to restore all the paths around Peel Hall Park before moving onto other projects.

Jon, who is an engineer and lives in Fearnhead said: “I am mindful of other areas that need our attention such as litter picking on Enfield Park and the neighbouring fields. I am inviting residents to join our Facebook group to help us identify areas that are giving cause for concern.”

The group’s next event takes place on the park on Sunday February 2nd from 10am. Jon said everyone is invited and he is encouraging residents to join his group on Facebook – Cinnamon Brow & Fearnhead Volunteer Group.

  1. Great work and leadership Jon, just what the area needs this new group adds to the Friends of Longbarn Park, Friends of Parkfields Park, Friends of Cinnamon Brow Park and the local residents associations.

  2. Oh I nearly forgot thanks for your support with the ongoing Peel Hall @ Local Plan campaigns – the local Borough Councillors may dismiss it out of hand by following the whip and abstaining but the community don’t and are dismayed by their action or should that be inactions.
