CONGRATULATIONS to everyone involved in organising the Warrington Parkrun which has gone from strength to strength since it started six years ago.
The free community event, which is part of a national network, is run by a dedicated team of volunteers and last week more than 700 people, of varying abilities took part, creating a new record.
Since joining the event just over 18 months ago I have certainly enjoyed the benefits and was proud to receive my 50th run t-shirt in the post earlier this week after reaching my milestone on Christmas Day.
It has been fantastic seeing various members of the local community taking part in the weekly event which will celebrate its 6th birthday a week on Saturday.
Being a person who disliked running with a passion, dodging it at every opportunity during my school days and throughout my life, I am still pinching myself that I have collected my 50th milestone t-shirt – which is again provided free of charge. (All you pay for is the postage)
I would seriously recommend any one thinking of new ways of keeping fit to give the Parkrun ago.
It is certainly infectious and I have even been a tourist on a couple of occasions in Nottingham and Anglesey!
None of it would be possible without the volunteers who get up early every Saturday to set up the course and then take your results as you cross the finishing line, with others around the course cheering you on!
Well done to you all – and thank you for changing my life for the better!
Keep on running!!
