Family pay tribute as man charged with murder of Michael Mairs

A Warrington man has been charged with murder following an incident near the town centre last October which resulted in the death of 53-year-old Michael Mairs.

Daniel Sharples, aged 37, of Grisedale Avenue, was charged at Liverpool Crown Court today (Monday 6 Januay).

He has been remanded into custody and is due to stand trial on Monday 18 May.

The charge relates to an incident in Crown Street at around 12.15pm on Sunday 6 October.

Mr Mairs, aged 53, sustained serious injuries during the incident and died on Monday 28 October.

His family paid tribute in a statement saying: “The last few months have been such a difficult time to try and come to terms with the loss of our father.

“It is impossible to put into words what a massive effect this has had on those who loved and knew him.”
