Warning over internet scam

TRADING Standards chiefs at Warrington have issued a warming to local businesses about an advertising scam
The swindle purports to offer free advertising in the Yellow Pages online director – but then advertisers receive a demand for payment of up to £499.
The scammers seek to mislead businesses into signing up to fake contracts.
Contact is initially made by fax in most cases – and if businesses respond repeated requests for payment follow.
“The Yellow Pages 24” is believed to be based abroad and has no connection whatsoever with the well established and recognised Yellow Pages. Investigations are currently ongoing across the country.
Any business that has fallen victim of this scam is advised to contact Consumer Direct for further advice on 08454 04 05 06.
