Government is putting prosperity at risk, claims Lib Dem

WARRINGTON South residents can surely not support a government that puts the country’s prosperity at risk.
That’s the view of Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for the constituency Ryan Bate in his first statement since the date of the December 12 General Election was announced.
Cllr Ryan said an independent study by the National Institute of Economic and Social Research had claimed that the Prime Minister’s Brexit deal would leave the UK £70 billion worse off than if it had remained in the EU.
He said: “Boris Johnson’s deal is worse than Teresa May’s and neither deal is as good as the one we currently have as members of the EU.
“The study estimates that the economy will be 3.5 per cent smaller by 2029. This is a sign of the mess we’re in. Surely the voters of Warrington South cannot support a government that puts our prosperity at risk by slowing economic growth for years to come?
“Add to this the embarrassment of having to melt down the 50p Brexit coin and it is clear we need a new government and a new direction for the country”
The Royal Mint had started to produce 50p coins to commemorate Brexit but the Treasury has now confirmed they will be recycled.
It is understood thousands of the coins bearing the October 31 2019 date and the inscription “Peace, Prosperity and Friendship with all Nations” will be melted down and the metal kept aside for use when a Brexit date is agreed.
The Treasury said it was still planned to produce a coin to mark the UK’s departure from the EU.
