Students play the Cavern Club

STUDENTS from Warrington had the chance to perform in a venue known throughout the world as the place where the Beatles played in their early days.
Priestley College BTEC Music students were given a rare opportunity to perform at Liverpool’s Cavern Club.
The venue, in the heart of now trendy Mathew Street, was made famous in the 1960’s as rock n’ roll took the country by storm and the Mersey sound became famous.
The Beatles first played at the club in 1961, and the students were able to walk in their footsteps by performing a night time gig that featured many of their famous tracks.
Their performance in the venue’s intimate surroundings was well received by the audience.
As part of their course students regularly have to perform in a live setting for assessment purposes – and this gig was one such performance.
Tutor Michael Grainger said: “Even if you are not particularly into music, mention The Beatles and you immediately think of Liverpool and the Cavern Club.
“Students have to be regularly assessed for live performances, so this world-famous venue provided them the ideal backdrop to really express themselves and bring their own style to the music of The Beatles.”
