Homes and businesses hit by power cut

HUNDREDS of homes and businesses in the WA4 area of Warrington were impacted by a power cut at around 1pm today (Friday).

The cause of the power cut is not yet known but local sources suggested it could have involved contractors cutting through a power cable.

Homes and offices around the Bridgefoot area of town, including the offices of warrington-worldwide, were impacted along with properties on Wilderpool Causeway, Irwell Road and Chester Road.

In a statement ot customers Scottish Power said: “We are contacting you about an unplanned power cut in the WA4 postcode area of Warrington.

“We did not know in advance there would be a power cut, and became aware of this at 1:24PM.

“Our emergency response team are on their way to site to investigate the fault and we expect the power to be back on by 3:30PM.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the power cut and will let you know if any of the information changes.

“If you need help or assistance whilst the power is off please call us on 0800 001 5400. To protect electrical equipment we advise you to switch off and unplug appliances including boilers where safe to do so.”

  • Power was reported to be restored at 16.15
