Champions team up for charity

A UNIQUE piece of sporting memorabilia is set to go under the hammer for a Warrington charity thanks to local comedian Charlie Hale.
Charlie, who is patron of the Shannon Bradshaw Trust, has managed to create a truly unique piece of memorabilia involving a one-of-a-kind mounted Warrington shirt which combines the Wolves’ historic victory in this year’s Carnegie Challenge Cup with the World Famous Heavyweight Boxing Champion Muhammad Ali, commemorating both Champions.
All money raised from the auction of this framed masterpiece will go to the Shannon Bradshaw Trust, set up to help give relief and care to children, young people and their families predominantly in the Warrington and Cheshire areas.
Ali regained his title in 1974, the same year that Warrington last held the trophy aloft. Charlie met the Great Man as he compered an evening during which he presented Ali with his Emma Award and then took the opportunity to explain about the great work of the Trust and the greatest game.
“I showed him the Wolves shirt. He initially thought it was soccer until I told him it was Rugby League. He remembered it as ‘the game where they run at each other and have flat noses!'” commented Hale.
“I think it’s a great piece of memorabilia that will hopefully raise a lot of money for a charity dear to my heart, whether you’re a Warrington, Rugby League or boxing fan this is something that is unique. I’d love for people to ‘Bid Big’ to help the Shannon Bradshaw Trust.”
Mary Bonner, Chairperson at the Shannon Bradshaw Trust, said: “As a Charity our goal is to go That EXTRA Mile, helping and supporting children with life threatening conditions!”
Andy Gatcliffe, Chief Executive of Warrington Wolves, commented that the Club was delighted to not only have this joint association with the great Mohammad Ali, praising Charlie’s initiative in putting this ‘one-off’ piece of memorabilia up for auction, but to offer full support for the Shannon Bradshaw Trust and the fantastic works being undertaken.
He said: “Please place your bid knowing that in gaining yourself/business a unique offering, children with life threatening conditions will benefit from your generosity.”
