PLANNING bosses at Warrington have thrown out proposals to extend a canal side cottage.
Members of the borough council’s development control committee decided the proposals for Greenbank Cottage, Canal Side, Grappenhall would be harmful to the setting of an adjoining Listed Building and the character and appearance of a Conservation Area.
The scheme involved a two storey front extension, single storey side extension, raising the roof level, alterations to the window layout and demolition of outbuildings.
Members were told the cottage appeared to have once served as a coach house for the Listed Greenbank House.
But it had at some time been converted into separate living accommodation.
The meeting heard that the council’s conservation officer felt the existing building retained the qualities and scale of the original coach house and raising the roof height was likely to harm the setting of Greenbank House.
Three nearby residents commented on the proposals – including one welcoming the scheme because it would avoid the property remaining empty and derelict.
