Adult volunteers needed for fire cadet scheme

WARRINGTON Fire Station is on the lookout for adult volunteers to join its cadet scheme.
The station on Winwick Road teaches youngsters aged between 12 and 17 many of the skills of a firefighter and enables them to gain nationally recognised qualifications and awards while having fun and making new friends.
The cadets meet at the fire station every Monday night and also have the chance to enjoy activities and social trips during weekends and school holidays.
But more adult volunteers are needed to help run Warrington’s fire cadet scheme, with all the required training being provided.
Vicky Wrest, youth development manager at Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Our fire cadet groups provide youngsters with an exciting and unique opportunity to develop both personal and social skills by promoting self-discipline, teamwork and citizenship.
“As well as learning the basic skills of a firefighter, they get the chance to gain Duke of Edinburgh awards and to enjoy things like outdoor activities, camps and social trips.
“Many of our cadet groups play an important role in their community, supporting local initiatives.
“The older Cheshire fire cadets can also apply to go to Nepal with cadet leaders to help build schools in rural communities and enable the children living there to have an education.
“These opportunities would not be possible without the support of adult volunteers.
“We are looking for new adult volunteers from all walks of life for the Warrington Fire Station cadet group.
“There’s no set profile and, with training provided, there’s no need to have any firefighting experience or a fire and rescue service background.
“All you need is to be over the age of 18 and have a drive and commitment to help young people thrive in your local community.
“If you have a few hours a week to spare to help with the running of the Warrington Fire Station cadet group please call our Youth Engagement Team on 01606 868654 or email [email protected].
“Alternatively you can download an application pack from www.cheshirefire.gov.uk/jobs/volunteers/cadet-leader-volunteers.
“You will be needed when the fire cadet group meets at Warrington Fire Station on Monday nights, as well as on some weekends during school term time.
“There are different roles available and any assistance volunteers can give will be greatly appreciated.”
All fire cadet group adult volunteers have to complete a DBS check.
