FLOOD warnings and alerts are in place across Warrington, with heavy flooding already reported in the Dallam area of town following heavy rain.

Two flood warnings are in place where flooding is expected and immediate action required at Areas Closest to Sankey Brook at Dallam and the Mersey Estuary at Arpley Bridge, Warrington.

The environment agency alert stated: “River levels have risen at the Higham Avenue river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.

“River levels could remain at this level for several hours throughout the afternoon, September 29.

Flooding is also expected – immediate action required, at the Mersey Estuary at Arpley Bridge, Warrington

The high tide is expected to be higher than usual at the Mersey Estuary at Arpley Bridge as a result of high tides. Consequently flooding of low lying land, roads and farmland is expected between 13:30pm and 14:00pm today, 29/09/19.

An environment agency statement said: “We believe there is a possibility of flooding for parts of Chester Road. Our incident response staff are closely monitoring weather forecasts and river levels and will issue further flood warnings if necessary.

“Please be aware of your surroundings, avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses, and keep up to date with the current situation.

A flood alert is also in place at the Causeway Bridge where river levels have risen as a result of heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of low lying land, roads and farmland is possible.

Fire crews attended at Densham Avenue following flooding in the area at around 2pm.

There were reports of people walking and playing in the water, which was knee deep.

Firefighters are urging adults and children to stay out of the water as there could be hidden dangers such as open drains, damaged road surfaces and submerged debris that can cause serious injury.
