BOOKWORMS are celebrating the 40th birthday of Great Sankey library.
Visitors, local councillors, current and former staff, community police officers and local groups all got together to take part in a week of commemorative events.
As part of the birthday celebrations, the library greeted a class from Evelyn Street Primary School and even played host to the Rugby League Challenge Cup before ending with a party and cake.
The library building, on Marina Avenue, was opened in 1969 but was destroyed by fire and replaced with the current one in 1990.
Councillor Liz Smith, who attended the party, said: “Great Sankey library has been very important to the local community over the years and we are delighted to be celebrating its 40th birthday.”
The library is open throughout the week. Visit www.warrington.gov.uk to find out more.
