A MAJOR store was evacuated at Warrington this morning after a suspect package was found just inside the entrance.
But when Army bomb disposal experts arrived and carried out a controlled explosion, the package was found to be harmless.
Police are stressing that the evactuation of the Sainsbury store in Church Street was carried out purely as a precautionary measure.
Church Street was closed in both directions, as was School Brow in the Orchard Street area while the operation continued, causing major traffic hold-ups.
A spokeswoman said: “We must emphasise that we evacuated the store purely as a precautionary measure while the package was being examined.
