School entrance safety warning

THE main entrance to the new Culcheth High School will pose serious road safety problems, local residents have warned.
It will be only about 25 yards from the busy junction of Warrington Road and Holcroft Lane, they told a meeting of Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council.
Resident Alan Graham asked: “Who on earth suggested the main entrance should be so close to Holcroft Lane?
“It will be carnage when the school opens.”
Coun Roger Rankin said it was not the first time concern had been expressed about the siting of the entrance. The council itself had raised the issue some time ago.
But borough council highways officers had produced a bulky report showing why the entrance should be located there.
“What do you do when you employ experts to advise you? Ignore them?”
He said the only alternative would be an entrance in Withington Avenue, which would be unacceptable.
