IT’S less than a week in to the new campaign, and already Warrington Town have had their taste of the football rollercoaster that keeps so many of us engrossed year on year.
Entering the season with the club’s best ever squad, with many returning from a play-off winning campaign last term, the home defeat to Morpeth Town was as disappointing as it was unexpected, but acted as a timely reminder how tough this league is.
There’s no real accounting for goals like the below, especially on the stroke of half time, but the second goal was a killer blow, even more so as it came from the Yellows coughing up possession in the attacking third.

Paul Carden’s side followed that with a 4-2 win over Atherton Collieries on Tuesday night in a performance, for an hour at least, showed just why they should be considered one of the favourites for the league title.
Left-back Louis Barnes made a considerable difference, with a disjointed Yellows back four struggling at times on Saturday, while Matthew Chadwick made an impact on his first start.

With games coming thick and fast at this stage of the season, the Yellows will be keen to pick up as many points as possible – especially given the ominous start made by South Shields.
It’s worth remembering though, that after four games last season, Warrington had just five points – with one win and two draws.
They lost on the opening day last season – 2-0 at home to Farsley – so while Saturday was a disappointment, it’s a long season ahead.
Enjoy the ride.
