THE Environment Agency in Warrington has boosted its links with the UK’s most popular zoo – thanks to the appointment of a new trustee.
Lee Rawlinson, area director for the agency in Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire, has taken on the new role with the North of England Zoological Society (NEZS), which operates Chester Zoo, to help guide its mission to prevent the extinction of species worldwide.
Throughout his career, Mr Rawlinson has played a leading role in environmental protection and conservation. As area director for the Environment Agency, he set a new benchmark for standards in regulated industry and has been heavily involved in activities such as Manchester’s Green Summit, Liverpool’s Year of the Environment and the Government’s Net Zero pledges.
As a result of his leadership from his base at Richard Fairclough House, Warrington, the North West is now one of the highest performing regions across the Agency.
Mr Rawlinson said: “Environmental protection has always been my passion and I have put this at the heart of my career in various forms. For many years, I have admired the amazing amount of inspirational work that Chester Zoo does. After working with them on several Environment Agency projects and campaigns, I have seen first-hand how immensely important their conservation and environmental activities are across the world.
“I am proud, humbled and honoured to be appointed as trustee and hope both Chester Zoo and the Environment Agency will benefit enormously from this appointment. We will continue to use our connections to find lasting solutions for animals, people and the planet.”
Chester Zoo’s trustees are drawn from a variety of professional backgrounds, but all share a common commitment to guide the management of the zoo and Act for Wildlife and its mission to prevent extinction.
