German beers
SPECIALITY German beers will be available at an Oktoberfest at the Sportsman’s Arms, Penketh, Warrington
on Friday, October 30. Entrance is free but donations are sought for the Help the Heroes fund.

Hospital lottery
WINNING numbers in the weekly lottery run by the League of Friends of Warrington Hospital were 5, 6, 13 and 15. The jackpot prize was unclaimed and will be “rolled over” to next week. The £25 consolation prize was won by a member of the hospital staff.

Remembrance Sunday
REMEMBRANCE Day at Appleton will be marked again this year with a service at St Cross Church, Appleton Thorn on November 8th at 10.15am. Refreshments will be served in the Village Hall afterwards.

POLICE are holding a Community Action Meeting for the Polish community at St Benedict’s Church on Rhodes
Street, Warrington on Sunday at 7pm when local issues such as nuisance youths, speeding, parking and

  1. Why are the police holding a Community Action Meeting for Polish people??? How bizarre. Why not have meetings for all the Scots in the town, and the Welsh, oh and maybe people who have moved here from Liverpool could have their own meeting too!! What an odd thing to do.

Does seem a bit strange but in answer to your comment the Scots, Welsh and Liverpudlians can all speak English so maybe this CAM is a special one with a Polish Speaking Officer or translator 🙂 Must be a bit hard to live in a country and get your concerns accross if you are struggling with the language barrier 😉

I quite agree with Diz, I now live in Spain and it is difficult putting your point of view across when you either have no command or very little command of the language, and you also sometimes misinterpret what the locals are saying to you. Believe me the older you get the more difficult it is.
