SECURITY shutters erected without permission at an optician’s shop can stay in place, Warrington planners have decided.
Members of the borough council’s development control committee visited The Cross, Lymm to view Adcott’s Opticians before deciding to grant retrospective planning consent for the shutters.
Planning officer had recommended the committee to refuse the application on the grounds the shutters were out of character with the conservation area in which the shop is situated.
But local councillor Sheila Woodyatt supported the optician.
She said a balance needed to be struck between retaining the character of the conservation area and protecting local businesses.
A planning department spokesman said: “There are alternatives that allow for a balance between obtaining security while at the same time retaining the character and appearance of the conservation area.”
But the committee decided to allow the shutters to remain in place.
Seeing sense at the opticians!
