HOMES were evacuated and a road closed following the discovery of a grenade device at a property in Old Hall, Warrington, today.
A police spokesman said a device had been found in a garden on Livingstone Close. It was not yet clear what it was, but it could be a grenade. A cordon had been set up to keep people away and a number of properties had been evacuated.
The bomb disposal squad had been alerted and were on their way to the scene. A few properties had been evacuated as a precaution.
“At the moment we have not further information.”
The land used to be part of the Burtonwood airbase and it believed the grenade object could be a legacy of the base.
*The EOD attended and removed the grenade to a safe location and the police cordon was lifted and people were allowed to return to their homes.
