Change UK candidates are “up and running”

CHANGE UK candidates in the North West are up and running for the European elections following the announcement that the UK would go to the polls on May 23.
Activists from the pro-Euro party have already given out thousands of leaflets and campaigned across Cheshire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cumbria.
Eight candidates have been selected to run – including Warrington’s former Labour councillor Dan Price.
Andrea Cooper, the Liverpool born and raised number one candidate, has held a number of leadership positions to support young people and said this experience had made her want to stand.
“I’ve dedicated my career to supporting young people and Brexit will kick away the ladder of opportunity from them,” she said. “Some 75 per cent of 18-24 year olds voted to remain and the figure among new voters, who weren’t able to vote in 2016, is even higher.
“So many young people are concerned about their future – getting a job, building a career, buying a house. Their worries will only worsen if we leave the EU. The University of Oxford and the London School of Economics have estimated that young people stand to miss out on up to £108,000 in lost earnings because of Brexit. Why should the next generation pay such a heavy price?”
Warrington councillor Dan Price, is an engineering consultant. He said he was standing because he could see the damage Brexit is causing to North West manufacturing.
“I’m seeing first-hand how Brexit is hurting business,” he said. “Exports are down, companies are losing orders and this is just the beginning. Leaving the EU will mean extra costs for our manufacturers because of delays to supply chains. We will need to build extra warehouses as a result, paying for extra staff, extra business rates and extra stock.
“The consequence of extra costs and less productivity are factories and jobs moving overseas. We can’t ignore this.
“I’m proud of the manufacturing base we’ve built in the North West. It’s a real powerhouse that’s taken decades to build and I don’t want to see years of progress sacrificed, which is why we need a people’s vote to get out of this mess.
“Our politicians have completely failed us, parliament is gridlocked and the country is stuck in limbo. This is causing untold damage to business and jobs, and we need a people’s vote to get out of this mess.”
