WARRINGTON-based North Cheshire Wind Orchestra is to open its winter season with a celebration of the season entitled “Autumn Light.”
The concert at Warrington’s Pyramid Arts Centre on Saturday, October 17 will feature music by Holst, Wagner, and Mendelssohn – all of which was originally written for wind instruments.
It will also include three contemporary works. “Dance Suite” by Joseph Horovitz gives a modern twist to classical dance music. Philip Wilby’s evocative “Catcher of Shadows” was inspired by the light and shade of photographer Frank Meadow Sutcliffe’s turn of the century pictures of Whitby.
Completing the programme is American composer Eric Whitacre’s lyrical tribute to the season, “October”.
The North Cheshire Wind Orchestra has been widely acclaimed for the quality of its performances and its innovative approach to programming.
Conductor Catherine Tackley said: “I think ‘Autumn Light’ will get our new concert season off to a great start.
“We’re playing some beautiful pieces by well known composers which are not often performed, such as Mendelssohn’s Overture for Winds and Wagner’s Trauermusik. The concert is sure to delight all music lovers.”
The concert begins at 7.30pm and there will be a pre-concert talk at 650pm.
