Completion of new roof at community centre

WORK to install a new roof at Fearnhead Cross Community and Youth Centre has just been completed at the community centre, thanks to the generosity of WREN’s Community Action Fund awarding a grant for £100,000.

The grant was awarded after the centre’s initial refurbishment, where it was discovered that vital work was needed on the roof that couldn’t be covered by the original funding.

The centre is home to many local groups and is in the heart of the community. With the new roof and refurbishment, Fearnhead Cross Community and Youth Centre is completely safe and leak free, and provides modern and flexible spaces for the community to use. The improvements have boosted the spirits of residents who regularly use the centre, as well as attracting new people to its facilities.

WREN Grant Manager, Richard Smith said: “It’s wonderful to see something we’ve helped with reach completion. The centre is a fantastic resource for the local community and has a huge user base. I hope the replacement roof allows the building to benefit the local community for many years to come.”

Cllr Tony Higgins, Warrington Borough Council‘s Executive Board Member for Leisure and Community, said: “Following a huge investment by Warrington Borough Council and funding from WREN for a new roof, the Fearnhead Community Centre is now fully operational. This centre is helping to deliver a wellbeing service and many activities to its local community. It’s important to recognise dedication of the council’s Neighbourhood team, who are engaging with many community groups and delivering initiatives that previously were not being offered.”
