More chaos as bridge to close again?

A WARRINGTON road bridge, blighted by traffic chaos for weeks because of roadworks, is to be temporarily closed again.
The Cantilever High Level Bridge at Latchford has been subject to temporary closures during the summer as maintenance work was carried out.
Drivers were frustrated by long queues and delays, especially at peak hours. Problems were exacerbated when the work took longer than anticipated and closures were extended.
Restrictions only ended on September 7.
Now restrictions are being introduced again to allow for bridge painting by the Manchester Ship Canal Company, from Saturday, October 10, for about 18 weeks. Closures are only expected to be at weekends at the beginning and end of the project.
A temporary prohibition of driving will affect the bridge, from its junction with the B5156 Station Road to and including the length of the road carried by the bridge over the Ship Canal.
A temporary footway closure will affect pedestrians using the bridge.
The alternative route for vehicles travelling westbound on B5156 Station Road will be via Wash Lane, A5061 Knutsford Road, A50 Kingsway South, A50 Knutsford Road, Hunts Lane and Ackers Road.

  1. Another project run by a bunch of incompetents.

WHY didn’t they check to see what repairs needed doing BEFORE painting the bridge, do them and then paint the whole of the bridge in one go.

The extra cost and disruption wouldn’t have been necessary.

Did it take 18 weeks to do the first lot of painting?

  2. 🙂 🙂 I see your point but put another way …..

If you had a rotten door frame or maybe a damaged/rusty car you wouldn’t repaint them first and then rub it all down to repair the damage …. or would you !! ha ha

All repairs are a form of maintenance as you say but it often helps and saves money of they are done in the right order 🙂

Saying all that ………… when WAS the bridge last painted as I may be talking twaddle if it was done on the past few years???

  3. Perhaps all the bits of the bridge which were not being maintained could have been painted while it was shut last time? Then there’d only be a bit left to do.

Or does that make too much sense?
