Young artists go on show

YOUNG artists from Warrington demonstrated their work, including painting, sculpture and costume, at a special exhibition in the town.
Warrington Museum and Art Gallery hosted the official opening of World of Culture – The Secondary Arts Network Exhibition.
Taking part were high schools from throughout the town including Birchwood, Bridgewater, Great Sankey, Lymm, Penketh, William Beamont and Woolston.
There was a presentation evening for schools with Warrington Visual Arts Forum presenting two awards.
The Peter Oakley award for the most promising student was won Hannah Kays, of Lymm High School, for her untitled mixed media piece. Her mum was presented with a certificate and a £50 prize on her behalf to spend in Edwin Allen’s Art Supplies.
The award for the best overall school was awarded to Woolston High School, who received a painting by he late Peter Oakley.
Peter Oakley’s widow, who presented the awards, said: “Peter believed that art education is a necessary part of a good all round balanced education. He would applaud the work and effort by students that has gone into this exhibition.”
The exhibition is open until November 7.
