Town topple league leaders

1

WARRINGTON’S good form continued as they toppled league leaders Curzon Ashton 3-1 at Cantilever Park.
Two first half goals from Chris Gaghan, the second a penalty on 30 minutes when Curzon’s centre half Matthew Wood saw red after bringing down the pacey winger when he was clean through on goal and a deflected effort from Richard Chetcuti on 74 minutes secured all three league points for Town.
Curzon finished the game with nine men after the second half sending off of Hasim Deen, for kicking out at Gaghan.
It was Gaghan who opened the scoring on 19 minutes when he raced clear and chipped the advancing keeper David Carmell.
But five minutes later the previously unbeaten visitors were on level terms when centre forward Michael Norton headed home at the far post.
Warrington were back infront on 31 minutes after Gaghan was brought down by Wood when he was clean through on goal. Wood walked and Gaghan got to his feet to calmly fire the ball home.
Leading 2-1 at the break Warrington failed to dominate as the visitors always looked capable of getting back into the game, even when they were reduced to nine men after the sending off of Deen in the 56th minute.
Warrington eventually made the game safe when Chetcuti’s cross was deflected home off Adam Jones to complete the scoring at 3-1.

Pictures show Chris Gaghan just before he was brought down, Darren Kinsey in action and Gaghan converting the penalty.

  1. Good performance today, wasn’t too impressed by them, considering they were top of the league at kick off. A massive well done to everyone involved from Joey downwards, and keep up the good work
