Campaign to stop house repossessions

WARRINGTON North MP Helen Jones is promoting a new initiative from the government to help prevent house repossessions.
A communications campaign has been launched to help provide reassurance to worried households and to highlight the help and advice available to help avoid losing their home.
The MP (pictured) said: “In the current economic climate, more households are struggling with their mortgage payments and the possible threat of repossession. The government is determined to help people to stay in their homes and a range of measures is now in place to provide help at every stage to people struggling with their mortgage repayments.
“This new initiative points people in the right direction. Help is available through National Debtline, CAB, CCCS and Shelter as well as a new website with information on the extra help and protections available to households.
“The campaign highlights that more than 300,000 households have received help and advice with their mortgages since April last year. Even if you are behind with your mortgage payments, it’s never too late to take control.”
The new website can be found at www.direct.gov.uk/mortgagehelp and the National Debtline is free on 0808 808 4000.
