Takeaway plan withdrawn

CONTROVERSIAL plans to convert part of the Sarah Siddons fashion store in London Road, Stockton Heath, into a hot food takeaway have been withdrawn.
The scheme appeared on the agenda for the last meeting of the borough council’s development control committee, but members were told it had subsequently been withdrawn by applicants KJS UK Ltd.
An earlier meeting of the committee had deferred a decision to make a site visit after hearing of major opposition to the scheme.
More than 340 people had signed a protest petition, 12 individual letters of objection had been received and Stockton Heath Parish Council had also objected.
Main reasons for objections were road safety, smells, insufficient space for waste storage, litter and loss of retail facilities.
The application was withdrawn despite planning officers recommending it be approved.
