Cautioned Wolves' stars face pub ban

THE manager of a town centre nightclub where two Warrington Wolves’ stars were arrested following an alleged drunken brawl has expressed his “disappointment” at the decision to issue the players with cautions.
Centre Chris Bridge, 25, and forward Ben Harrison, aged 21, were arrested on suspicion of affray following an incident at Panama Jacks nightclub, Bridge Street, Warrington, on July 27. The players were alleged to have been involved in a brawl in the venue after being refused entry.
A police spokesperson said: “A 21-year-old man and a 25-year-old man both from the Warrington area have received a conditional caution in relation to an offence that took place in Warrington on July 27.”
The incident took place at around 1.30am, following Warrington Wolves 62-20 victory over Salford.
Panama Jacks manager Dave Lawrenson, said he was “disappointed” with the decision as the incident had resulted in the club facing a licence review.
“We could have lost our licence following this incident which would have resulted in people losing their jobs. I am pleased the police have withdrawn the review but the players involved could face a 12 month ban from drinking at any town centre pub or club.
“At the last Pubwatch meeting it was a unanimous decision to ban them until the next meeting in October and I would expect the ban to continue.
“We work very closely with the police and council to try and make Warrington a safer place. We are not doing it because of who they are – this is standard practice.”
Warrington Pubwatch has banned the players from drinking in the town centres’ pubs since the incident – with the players facing a 12 month ban at the next meeting in October.
