MP’s anger over Peel Hall remaining in Local Plan

MP Helen Jones today reacted angrily to the publication of Warrington Borough Council’s draft local plan, which continues to include the controversial Peel Hall development plan.
The plan continues to set out proposals to build 1,200 homes on the Peel Hall site, along with other facilities, including a primary school, care home and shops.
It concedes that the existing road network could not cope with the development growth proposes and says not start could be made in the first five years of the plan period.
But the Warrington North MP – who has organised a petition opposed the development, says the decision is “very disappointing.”
She said: “The draft local plan continues to set out plans to build 1,200 homes on the Peel Hall site, along with other facilities. This is despite the fact that plans to build on the site were rejected, for a second time, at a planning inquiry last year.
Ms Jones said: “ It is very disappointing that the council continues to leave the Peel Hall door open to developers. T
“hey say that the local plan has been drawn up having been ‘informed’ by feedback from the public. I would have thought that the almost unanimous opposition to any development on the site by literally thousands of people would have ‘informed’ them in a much better way than it, sadly, seems to have done.
“There is still time to change the plan. Both borough councillors and parish councillors support removing the site from the plan. They have signed my petition asking for that to happen and fought elections promising to oppose any development there.
“ If the plan goes out to public consultation I will present my petition, which stands currently at nearly 1,000 signatures, as part of the process.
“I hope the council does listen to the overwhelming ‘no’ from residents on this issue.”
